Tata Motors had hinted about a new petrol engine under development at the Geneva Motor Show.  They have been working on an in-house 1.6-litre turbo petrol engine that is expected to produce 150bhp and 250Nm of torque. This engine will most likely come paired with a six-speed manual gearbox and a DCT gearbox.

Recently, test mules of Tata Tiago, Tigor, and Punch were seen testing for their CNG variant, Also spotted during their test run were camouflaged test mules of Tata Harrier and Safari which indicate these cars could get a petrol engine very soon. Currently, the Harrier and the Safari both get only diesel engines. The petrol variant of the Harrier will help Tata Motors to reduce the price of this SUV. it will be useful for car buyers who have less usage and don’t require a diesel car. It will also make the starting price of the Harrier affordable for people who want the SUV experience without over-boarding on their budget. Upcoming emission norms have led to people avoiding diesel engines. A powerful petrol engine will be a practical solution for Tata Motors while considering SUVs like Harrier and Safari.

When it comes to exteriors, interiors, dimensions, and features of the Harrier, everything will remain similar to the diesel variant currently available on sale. This new petrol engine will get new driving modes with this update. Just as the Altroz got new colors with its i-turbo variant. We expect to see new colors along with some new features and new leather seats to distinguish the Harrier petrol from its diesel variants.

Pricing and Launch

Usually, the diesel variant is expensive by almost a lakh than its petrol variant. We expect Tata Harrier to start from Rs 13 lakh(ex-showroom). We also expect Tata Motors to launch the petrol variant of the Harrier by mid 2022. The Harrier is also expected to get a minor facelift.
