Toyota has not launched any new product in India for some time now. Since it collaborated with Maruti, it has launched only rebadged Maruti products. But this is soon going to change as Toyota is bringing some of its global products to India. The first of these will be the Hilux pickup truck. Toyota will have to price the Hilux competitively in order to dominate the market. Considering it will share several parts with the locally-produced Fortuner and Innova, we expect Toyota to price it between Rs 18 lakh and Rs 25 lakh (ex-showroom). At this price, the Hilux has the potential to completely rule this segment due to its popularity and capabilities. It’s only competition will be the Isuzu D-Max which starts from Rs 17 lakh (x-showroom).
Dimensions & Design
The Hilux comes with various cabin options like a crew cab, single cab and smart cab. Toyota might have this cabin options in India too. Dimension-wise, it will fall between 5275-5345mm in length, 1800-1855mm in width & 1690-1810mm in height. It sits on a wheelbase of 3085mm and has a ground clearance of 279mm. Design-wise, the Hilux looks like a typical Toyota SUV. It gets an aggressive grille design with a lot of chrome usage. The side and rear profile give it an urban off-roader vibe.
Specifications
What engine will Toyota offer on the Hilux is still a mystery but we expect the brand to offer both petrol and diesel engines. The petrol engine could be the 2.7-litre petrol engine used on the Innova. Toyota might offer different diesel engines on the base and top model. The lower variants could get the 2.4-litre diesel engine from Innova while the higher variants could get the 2.8-litre diesel engine used on the Fortuner. We expect both engines to come with manual and automatic gearbox options.
Features
Considering the Hilux is targeted at modern buyers, Toyota will also load it with a decent amount of features. It will come with an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment with Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, alloy wheels, automatic climate control, etc.
