Tesla is trying their best to enter the Indian market as soon as possible. There have been sightings of Model 3 and Model Y in India. Now Tesla has received approval for three more trims of its vehicles in India from the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways.  Tesla had already received approval for its four models in August. So now Tesla has a total of seven cars approved in India. Exactly which cars and variants have got this approval is still unknown.

What are the problems Tesla is facing?

Tesla launch in India

Tesla is facing two major problems in India. The first is India’s high import taxes. Tesla knows India is a very price-conscious market and it has to price its car competitively for them to succeed. Tesla will have to either set up a factory in India or try to get some exemptions from the Indian government for its imported cars. The second issue is low ground clearance. The Tesla Model 3 has a ground clearance of just 115mm, which is too low for the Indian roads. During a recent trial, it scrapped 90% of the speed breakers and potholes. Tesla will have to either re-engineer the car or bring a different model altogether.
