The MG Hector revolutionized the SUV segment with its size and features at an affordable price. It single handedly established the MG brand in the Indian market. But now it has started facing stiff competition from other cars in this segment. MG is looking to counter this by giving another update to Hector. We now have exclusive spy shots of the test mule of Hector, which was tested with ADAS functionality. In today’s article, we will see this 2022 MG Hector testing with ADAS.

What was spotted

2022 MG Hector

The 2 Hectors were spotted in Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra, with no camouflage. It is easy to figure out these are MG test vehicles as they are registered in Halol, where the MG factory is located. The cars are equipped with quite a lot of testing instruments, with the driver admitting that it was ADAS equipment being tested for India. Also, the driver has purposefully blocked the view of the digital instrument cluster and steering wheel. Also, we can see data being recorded in the laptop connected to the infotainment screen.

Why does it make sense?

2022 MG Hector

MG is known to bring segment-first features. It was the first car manufacturer to bring ADAS to India with its Gloster. They have also offered ADAS on the Astor. MG will bring ADAS on the Hector to take on the XUV700. The MG Hector sold in Indonesia as Wuling Almaz already comes with ADAS tech. This clearly shows that MG has the tech ready for Hector. MG might offer it with level 2 ADAS like the Astor which comes one segment below the Hector. It will come with adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, intelligent headlamp control, forward collision warning and much more. It might also get the AI assistant.

Other expected changes

2022 MG Hector

The Hector does offer a diesel engine, but only with a manual gearbox. As this segment is dominated by diesel engines, the absence of a diesel automatic is a big miss. MG is expected to bring a diesel automatic in this 2022 MG Hector. Another improvement would be with the infotainment system. The current UI is quite laggy and slow to respond. MG should improve it to fully utilise the big infotainment system.

  • When will this launch?
I am buying the MG Hector and don’t want to end up buying the car just to get this update in a few months.
