Cars have become an important mode of transportation due to the pandemic. But the rising fuel prices have severely dented the affordability factor. Also, petrol cars don’t offer good mileage. EVs can be a good alternative to this, but the infrastructure is still developing. Due to these reasons, manufacturers like Maruti are focusing more on mild-hybrid setups. The Ertiga is a popular people mover and it could get a hybrid setup in its next update. In today’s article, we will see Maruti’s Rs 9 lakh car to get new technology.

What is the new technology?

Currently, the Ertiga comes with a smart hybrid system (SHVS). This system is quite a basic version of the hybrid system. This hybrid system only powers the electronic appliances in the car for some time after you switch off the engine. Maruti is working on making this hybrid system more useful. In this new setup, you will get a 1-kWh or 2-kWh battery pack connected to the engine. It will get regenerative capabilities to achieve maximum efficiency.

Why does it make sense?

This new hybrid system will help increase the efficiency of the Ertiga. Currently, the Ertiga gets 18-26km/l mileage. With this battery pack, it can get a mileage of around 30-35km/l. This kind of mileage in a petrol car will surely find a lot of buyers. Also, it would attract people thinking about buying diesel cars but are worried over the upcoming emission norms. The Ertiga is popular among fleet operators who will appreciate such high mileage.

Currently, Maruti and Toyota are collaborating on several products. They are also working on expanding Suzuki’s Sanad plant to manufacture and accommodate battery packs. These new battery packs will be first used in the new-generation Brezza. The Ertiga will also get it after the new-generation Brezza.
