Tata has been on a roll in the Indian market. It has launched a wide variety of products to increase its customer base. It recently launched the Punch, a sub-compact SUV that has garnered good sales in its first month. Seeing this potential, Maruti is also working on a sub-compact SUV to compete with the Punch. For now, this new compact SUV is codenamed “YTB”. Like all other Maruti cars, it will be based on the Heartect platform. It is rumoured that this SUV will be derived from the Baleno. So we can expect it to share some of its components with the Baleno.

The YTB is expected to get a design similar to the Futuro-E concept car that Maruti had shown at the Auto expo 2020. The new car will get a tall boy design to give it an SUV look. This tallboy design will give it more spacious interiors. In the interiors, it will borrow some elements from the Baleno to give them a premium look.

The new SUV will share its engine options with the Baleno. It will get a 1.2-litre petrol engine that produces 82bhp and 113Nm of torque. The other engine will be a 1.2-litre DualJet petrol engine producing 89bhp and 113Nm of torque. Both these engines will come with manual and automatic transmission options. Maruti may also bring a mild hybrid on the YTB to give it the best in class mileage. Though the chances of this happening are slim, it can completely change this segment.
