Many carmakers are planning to bring in their EVs but only a handful of them have managed to launch them. The electric car market in India is in its early stages of infancy. Tata Motors is one of these few carmakers that are willing to venture into this unexplored segment. They had recently launched their second EV in India – the Tigor EV. Currently, Tata Motors has Nexon EV and Tigor EV in India. They have a very ambitious plan of bringing a total of 10 EVs by the next five years. We expect Altorz EV to be the next EV from Tata Motors. They had already showcased it at the Auto Expo 2020. In this article, we will discuss our expectations from the Tata Altroz EV.

Tata Altroz EV Design

The exteriors and overall bodywork of the Altroz EV will look similar to the Altroz currently available in petrol and diesel. Tata motors will try to bring in some kind of uniformity in their EVs by giving a colored grille with EV badging, blue highlights on the bumpers, and fog lamps and also get the signature Teal Blue color that we see on the Nexon EV and Tigor EV. The interior of the Altroz EV will be similar to the Altroz (ICE), with some EV blue elements to differentiate it from its ICE counterparts.

Tata Altroz EV Features

The Altroz EV is expected to be a feature-loaded car. It will get a floating touch screen infotainment system, eight-speaker sound system, automatic climate control, keyless entry, and iRA connected car technology. We also expect the Altroz EV to get regenerative braking to make it more efficient in terms of mileage.

Performance and Battery Pack

We expect the Altroz EV to get the same Ziptron motor technology that is currently available in the Nexon EV and Tigor EV. Just like the other two EVs, the Altroz EV will get an automatic gearbox. The battery pack will be a 26kWh Lithium-ion unit with IP67 water and dust-proof standards.

Range and Charge Time

We expect the range of the Altroz EV to be around 300-350km similar to that of Nexon EV and Tigor EV. The car will get a fast charger that can charge the battery from 0-80 percent in less than 60 minutes. The Altroz EV will come with an eight-year battery warranty similar to the Tigor EV.

Pricing and Launch

Tata Tigor EV

Currently, there are no hatchbacks in the EV segment. With the launch of Altroz EV, Tata Motors will create a new segment in itself for EV hatchbacks. This way they will also gain the advantage of early entry in the market and will be able to rule the hatchback EV segment for a longer time. We expect Tata Motors to price this EV around Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom) as this will be placed below the Tigor EV. The launch of this car is expected in the first quarter of 2022.

  • Tigor is a Joke in the name of EV. I am not sure why the media is not highlighting the half-baked product with open wiring and suboptimal build quality. I understand it’s Made by an Indian company but we shouldn’t encourage companies to come up with such abysmal products.

Also, the 26KW battery will be super small for Altroz. I hope Tata doesn’t make that mistake and adds a 33KW battery.

Hope to see a decent finished product in the market soon. We need EVs from different OEMs as competition only can get prices down and quality up.
