Five things we know about Kia Carens
Kia is now a popular brand in India. Cars like Seltos and Sonet are doing exceptionally well for Kia Motors. Kia seems to be planning to expand its product portfolio in India by entering into new segments. Currently, the MPV segment is dominated by Maruti Ertiga and XL6. Kia is working on an affordable MPV that will rival the Maruti Ertiga. They have named it Kia Carens. In this article, we will discuss five things we know about Kia Carens.
Kia Carens name registered
Kia Motors has registered a new car in the name of Carens in India. Currently, Kia sells an MPV named Carnes in Europe and other countries. But the car Kia is planning to launch in India is going to be an all-new car based on the Kia Sonet.
Design of Kia Carens
The Kia Carens will be based on the Kia Sonet. The MPV is expected to carry the same aggressive design language as the Sonet as seen in the spy shots. The side profile of the car will be longer than Sonet to include the third row. The car is also expected to get more headroom than Sonet. The MPV will also borrow design cues from Sonet. The Carens is expected to get similar ventilated seats in the front row as the Sonet.
Specifications
Currently, the Kia Sonet gets a 1.2-litre Smartstream G 1.2 petrol engine that produces 82bhp and 115Nm of torque. While the diesel variant is powered by a 1.5-litre CRDi VGT engine that produces 113bhp and 250Nm of torque. The Sonet gets an option of manual, iMT ( clutchless manual), DCT, and Torque converter gearbox to choose from. A similar setup and gearbox options with a different state of tune will be offered on the Kia Carens.
Features
The Kia Carens is expected to get a 10.25-inch infotainment system and a premium music system. The car will get features like wireless charging, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and tyre pressure monitoring system. The car will get AC vents for the third row along with charging ports. The car will also get a heads-up display making it feature-loaded while competing with Maruti Ertiga.
Price and Launch
Since Kia will be placing this against the Maruti Ertiga. The expected price of the Kai Carens will be around Rs 8lakh (ex-showroom). As of now, there is no official confirmation related to the launch date but we expect it to make its public debut in the first quarter of 2022.
