Honda is a very popular and reliable brand in India since 1997. The brand has been successful when it comes to selling sedans in India. Honda City and Honda Amaze have been very popular. While other carmakers have straightaway plunged into the EV race, Honda is taking it slow by using the Hybrid route to EV. Honda’s next big plan is to bring two hybrid cars to India. In this article, we will discuss these two hybrid cars from Honda.

Honda City Hybrid

Honda City Hybrid

Honda City is a car that has been around since 1997 when Honda stepped into India for the first time. Over the period the car has seen five-generation updates and has been doing well in terms of sales consistently. The Honda City Hybrid is said to be the most fuel-efficient car in its segment. The car will be placed to rival the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz. This hybrid version of the Honda City will be based on the Honda e:HEV hybrid technology. The car is expected to get a proper hybrid engine and not a mild hybrid that we see in some hybrid cars in India. The Honda City Hybrid will continue to get the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that produces 97bhp and 127Nm of torque. The electric motor from the hybrid engine will be able to produce 109bhp and 253 Nm of torque. The Honda City Hybrid is expected to deliver a mileage of 27Kmpl.

Honda Mid-size SUV

Honda Venue Competition

The second hybrid car that Honda will bring to India is a mid-sized SUV. Looking at the SUV frenzy in India, Honda will place a product in the most active segment of the mid-sized SUV. The SUV will have underpinnings of the Honda City and will be powered by a 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol engine. The SUV will be equipped with the Honda e:HEV hybrid technology and produce around 130bhp and 253Nm of torque. This mid-sized SUV will have three drive modes viz Normal, Eco and Sport. The design of this mid-sized SUV will be similar to the last generation CR-V but a bit smaller and compact. This car is expected to compete with Kia Seltos and Hyundai Creta. The mid-size SUV from Honda will be launched around mid-2022 in India. Since this car is also based on e:HEV hybrid technology similar fuel efficiency of around 25 to 27 kmpl is expected from this car.
