In today’s article, we will explain why Casper is called a president’s car.

Why is Casper so important in South Korea?

The Casper is the first car manufactured by a joint venture between Hyundai and the Gwangju city government. This joint venture is investing 575.4 billion WON ($482.7 million) in Casper. This Gwangju-style project is one of the eight products to revitalize the region’s economy and create jobs.

Hyundai Casper’s impact on South Korea

Hyundai Casper

The Casper plant called Gwangju Global Motors is responsible for manufacturing vehicles outsourced by Hyundai. The government offers 628,000-square-meter of a plot of the land for the site and other welfare benefits for the employees. A total of 571 people work at the plant currently, with almost 90% of them being youngsters. The government is looking to increase the production capacity and also employ new workers. Coming to the Casper, it is the first mini car from Hyundai in 19 years. The car also took off in the Korean market garnering over 25,000 bookings, the highest figure for a Hyundai ICE car. The official company server crashed on the first day of pre-booking due to high volumes. Even President Moon Jae-in had to wait for some time until he succeeded in making an order. Seeing this positive reaction, Hyundai is planning to bring an electric version of the Casper in 2023.

President Moon Jae-in Casper

President Moon Jae-in with his wife Kim Jung-sook took delivery of the car on the 8th of October. This is a big step to create awareness for the first private-public experiment to create jobs in South Korea. Moon Jae-in has chosen the Khakhi-coloured mid-trim of the Casper with a turbo engine. The car cost the president 15.9 million won (Rs 10 lakh).
