The Thar has been one of the most successful products in terms of popularity and demands. The second generation launched in 2020 has been raking in good sales for the brand. Though the Thar is such a great package, it is not that practical for bigger families. To counter this, Mahindra is working on a five-door Thar. To make it even more practical, Mahindra can bring a pickup truck based on the five-door Thar. In today’s article, we will discuss the Thar pickup.

How will Mahindra do it?

Mahindra Thar 5 door

Mahindra is already working on a 5-door version of the Thar. The 5-door version will be considerably bigger than the normal Thar. This extra space will provide more spacious interiors for more practical use. Mahindra can convert this extra space into a pickup carriage. It will use the cabin layout of three-door Thar while the carriage can be used for goods. To clarify, the Thar 5-door will be the more premium version of the two. Mahindra can take inspiration from Jeep USA, which has done something similar to Jeep Gladiator, which is based on the Wrangler.

Why is it needed?

The pickup truck segment is expected to expand at a rapid pace in the upcoming time. Currently, this segment only consists of the Isuzu D-Max. But Toyota is looking to bring the Hilux pickup to India. The Hilux is a global product that is famous for its reliability and off-road capabilities. To give it a competition, Mahindra can bring the Thar pickup. Also, this can be beneficial for people looking for a cargo mover with decent off-road capabilities.

What will be similar?

The Thar pickup will get similar engine options to the 5-door Thar. It will get 2.0-litre petrol and a 2.2-litre diesel engine. Mahindra might give it less power than the Thar 5-door. Transmission options should include manual and automatic gearbox options. It will come equipped with a 4×4 drivetrain. Mahindra will look to price it in between the 3-door Thar and the 5-door Thar.
