Honda is planning to bring the Honda City Hybrid variant to India very soon. The Honda City Hybrid is said to be the most fuel-efficient car in its segment. To rival, this Maruti Suzuki will launch the new generation Ciaz with hybrid technology. The Ciaz will try to compete with Honda City purely in terms of fuel efficiency as a key factor. Rising fuel prices have made the buyers more mileage conscious. This is one important reason for Maruti Suzuki and Toyota to bring in hybrid technology in their cars before Honda.
Maruti-Suzuki and Toyota are working together on developing new hybrid products. Suzuki’s Sanand plant in Gujarat is under expansion so that the development and manufacturing of new battery packs could be started. These newly developed battery packs will be used by Maruti Suzuki and Toyota in their existing cars and upcoming cars. Vitara Brezza is expected to be the first to get this technology followed by Maruti Suzuki Ciaz.
The Maruti Suzuki Ciaz comes with a smart hybrid system (SHVS). This SHVS in the Ciaz is very basic and only powers the electronic accessories of the car even when you switch off the engine. The new generation Ciaz that is being planned will get better hybrid technology. It is expected to get a small 1-kWh or 2kWh battery pack with regeneration capabilities. This battery pack will be connected to the petrol engine and both will work in sync together. This will increase the overall efficiency of the engine while traveling on highways or when traveling at high-altitude locations.
