First Tata CNG car coming soon
Previously in April this year, we had done a story regarding upcoming CNG cars from Tata Motors. This is an update to the same story as Tata Tiago’s CNG version is currently available for pre-order but this has been kept as a secret. Only a few Tata dealerships in India are currently accepting bookings for Tata Tiago CNG for a booking amount of Rs 11,000. In this article, we will discuss what the Tata Tiago CNG has to offer.
Tata CNG Car Update
Currently, Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai are the only two carmakers that offer factory-fitted CNG kits in their cars. Fuel prices have skyrocketed in the last few months and continue to reach for the moon. This has resulted in the rise in demand for CNG cars. Tata Motors will be stepping into the CNG cars segment with its popular hatchback the Tiago. This will help them gauge the demand for CNG vehicles and accordingly they will expand their CNG cars portfolio.
Design
There won’t be any major changes in the exteriors of the car. However, the car will have a newly tuned suspension to carry the extra load of the CNG kit at the rear. Also, boot space will be reduced. So people who travel with a lot of luggage need to keep in mind that the Tiago CNG will offer a smaller boot space due to the CNG cylinder installed.
Specifications
Currently, the Tata Tiago and Tigor get a 1.2-litre Revotron naturally-aspirated petrol engine that produces 85bhp and 113Nm of torque. Both Tiago and Tigor get an option of a five-speed manual transmission and a five-speed AMT option. However, the CNG variant will only get a manual gearbox.
Launch and Price
The Tata Tiago CNG will compete with Maruti Suzuki WagonR CNG, Hyundai Santro CNG, and Grand i10 Nios CNG, and the upcoming Maruti Suzuki Swift CNG. We expect Tata Motors to launch the Tiago CNG at Rs 6.75 lakh (ex-showroom) next month. Based on how the Tiago CNG performs, Tata Motors will also introduce Tigor CNG and maybe a Nexon CNG in their portfolio.
