Hyundai has been a successful manufacturer in the Indian market. Over the years, it has established itself here. The first product that helped Hyundai establish itself here was the Santro. The Santro was famous for its space and features when it was launched. It was able to compete with the Maruti WagonR, which is the best selling car in India. Hyundai hasn’t found the same success with the new generation of the Santro. So Hyundai will be looking to update the Santro to increase its sales. In today’s article, we will see this Rs 4 lakh hatchback.

The design of the Santro looks quite outdated and not in tune with the current Hyundai design language. Hyundai tried mimicking the older Santro in this new generation. This sadly hasn’t panned out well for the Santro. Hyundai should update the front of the Santro. In its facelift, it should get a new grille with better positioning of headlamps. Other than this, it should also get updated tail lamps to go with the front.

New interior

Hyundai cars are known for their premium fit & finish interiors. In that respect, Santro has decent interiors. But its interior doesn’t give that premium experience like other Hyundai cars. In the facelift, it can get all-black interiors with a modern dashboard layout. Hyundai could also add some more comfort features to the cabin.

Currently, the Santro comes with a 1.1-litre petrol engine capable of producing 68bhp and 99Nm of torque. There is also a CNG option available. Though the engine is sufficient for the car, it is underpowered compared to competition cars like the Maruti WagonR. Though this is highly unlikely to happen in this facelift, Hyundai should look to bring the 1.2-litre Kappa engine its uses on the i10 to the Santro. This engine will help Santro to better compete with the WagonR.

Basic connected car tech

Connected car tech has quickly become a must-have feature in cars. It is quite useful to track your vehicle and remotely lock/unlock your car. Hyundai offers it a blue link on almost all of its new cars. They should give it a basic version of the BlueLink.
