India has seen massive growth in the SUV market. The SUV market is now further divided into sub-sections viz. compact SUVs, mid-size SUVs, C-segment SUVs, and full-size SUVs. Hyundai has established itself in the SUV market, and its planning to add more products to another segment, the micro –SUV with its AX1 aka the Casper. The micro-SUV segment will cater to buyers who are planning to buy an affordable small car with an SUV-like feel. In this article, we will look at this new Hyundai Rs 5 lakh car and what it has to offer to Indian buyers.

Hyundai Casper

Hyundai Casper Design

The Casper will follow Hyundai’s new unique design language; the headlights will be placed at a bit lower spot and the LED DRL will be at a higher spot. The car will get LED tail lamps with triangular patterns that will be borrowed from the Alcazar. Hyundai will place round tail lamps on the rear bumper and try to maintain uniformity. The Casper will also sport a tall boy design that will result in decent headroom inside the cabin.

Hyundai Casper Specifications

Just like the Santro and the Grand i10 Nios, the Hyundai Casper is also based on the brand’s K1 platform. The Casper will come with the same engine as we see in the Santro.  A 1.1-litre petrol engine that produces 68bhp and 99Nm of torque.  And another 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that we had seen in the Grand i10 Nios. This engine is capable of producing 82bhp and 114Nm of torque. These engines will come mated to a five-speed manual and an AMT gearbox. If Hyundai gives this car a turbo –petrol engine then we can also expect an iMT gearbox along with it. We are not sure if Hyundai would bring the Casper with a diesel engine, however bringing one could prove to be a game-changer for the brand.
