Hyundai Creta has been leading the C-segment SUV market for quite some time. The September and October 2021 sales figures have a different story to tell. Hyundai managed to sell 8193 units of Creta in September and 6455 units in October. In this article, we discuss why the Hyundai Creta sales have dwindled while demand is still high.

Demand for devices like laptops, tablets, and computers saw a sudden surge in demand. The supply of microchips was diverted to sectors manufacturing electronic devices. Soon the inventory of microchips at the carmakers started to dry up. Carmakers are having a difficult time sourcing these microchips for automobile manufacturing. Many car makers have reduced their production capacity as well. This has had an effect on waiting periods of many cars.

The newly launched car from Mahindra, XUV700 was able to grab the attention of buyers from all segments and managed to attract more buyers. On the first day of its booking, the car had a record of 25,000 units booked in the first hour of its booking. Mahindra had to stop the booking for some time. This SUV from Mahindra is feature-loaded and gets some segment-first features making it unique. This car has managed to pull buyers from various segments. Overall bookings of the XUV700 are currently at 65,000 units. Mahindra XUV700 price range starts from Rs 15.08 lakh to 28.08 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).

The new SUV from Volkswagen, the Taigun being launched in India has have had a major effect. Though the car is not that popular, it still manages to attract buyers who want something more premium and sophisticated when it comes to driving compared to Creta. The base variant of the Volkswagen Taigun, the Comfortline 1.0 TSI with manual gearbox is priced at Rs 12.50 lakh (on-road, Mumbai), and the top-end variant of Taigun, the GT Plus 1.5 TSI with DSG gearbox is priced at Rs 20.79 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).

MG Astor

The Astor, a recently launched new product from MG is another reason for the drop in sales of Hyundai Creta. This car also managed to attract and make buyers wait were initially planning to buy a Creta. The MG Astor is a feature-loaded car and its base variant is priced at Rs 11.44 lakh (on-road, Mumbai) and the top-end variant is priced at Rs 20.60 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).

Tata Nexon

Tata Nexon

Tata Motors managed to sell 9,211 units of Tata Nexon in September and 10,096 units in October 2021. This figure also includes the Nexon EV which is a cost-effective alternative to buy looking at the rising fuel prices. The car has been consistently competing with Creta and this month has managed to outsell the Creta. The Tata Nexon is priced between Rs 8.57 lakh to 16.12 lakh (on-road, Mumbai)

Kia Seltos

Kia Motors also managed to sell 9,583 units of Seltos in September and 10,488 units in October 2021. The Kia Seltos is another option for people who were initially planning to buy a Creta but due to the long waiting period. They had to switch to Seltos from Creta. the Kia Seltos is priced between Rs11.64 lakh to Rs 21.81 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
