Upcoming- new base variant Mahindra Thar
The lifestyle SUV market has been growing rapidly all over the world. In India, too, this niche segment has expanded rapidly. The major reason for this growth has been the Mahindra Thar. Its new generation has been doing good numbers. But, now this segment is going to get some much-needed competition from cars like the Force Gurkha and Upcoming Maruti Jimny. To counter this, Mahindra will be looking to bring a cheaper variant of the Thar. In today’s article, we will see this new base variant of the Mahindra Thar.
Specifications
Mahindra will give it the same engine options as the other variants. It will get the 2.0-litre mStallion petrol engine and a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine. Mahindra might offer only a manual gearbox to keep costs down. It will also get smaller 16-inch steel wheels rather than the 18-inch alloy wheels. Other than this, we expect Mahindra to keep the 4WD on this cheaper variant. It will make no sense for Mahindra to remove the 4WD from Thar, for what it is known for.
Fewer features
Mahindra will do cost-cutting by providing fewer features to price it competitively. This variant will not get a music system, no power windows, no rear wiper washer and no fog lamps. Features like the cruise control, TPMS and steering-mounted controls are expected to be missing. Other than this it will get no rear seats and only a soft-top option. With lesser of everything, we expect the chip shortage to not be a big hinderance.
Base variant Mahindra Thar Pricing
This new variant might start from somewhere around Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom). Mahindra has not confirmed anything about this new base variant, but with the upcoming competition, we expect Mahindra to come with a new base variant soon.
