A lot of buzz surrounds the seventh generation of BMW’s legendary 5 series. The upcoming sedan is due to be launched in October 2016, at the Motor Show in Paris, France. Amidst all the regular updates on the sedan’s details have been appearing, there’s a new rendering that’s broken ground. This new rendering follows the premise that the 2017 edition 5 Series will share a lot of similarities with the new 7 Series (G11/G12 edition).

Slimmer LED headlamps flank the traditional dual-kidney grille at the front. Laser lighting is believed to be offered with this as an optional extra. The grille is expected to be larger than before and is due to come with active cooling system. The re-profiled bumper will sport cleaner lines than before. At the back, the tail-lamps will be OLED units and the bumper will get dedicated cut-outs for the dual tail-pipes, which will be finished in chrome.

On the inside, the new 5 Series will include a lot of the advanced features seen in the elder sibling – the 7 Series. Spy pictures have already shown that the steering wheel as well as the HVAC controls to be nearly identical to the ones in the 7 series. Additionally, the floating LCD infotainment unit too should be similar if not the same in both size as well as function as in the 7 series.

The meter console will dynamically alter the display based on the driving mode in use. Ambient lighting systems, dedicated fragrance deployment, and a high-tech, smart key-fob with touch-screen capabilities are all part of the package. The new 5 Series will get remote parking capabilities and a lush sounding, multi-speaker B&W Diamond sound system setup. On the digital communications front, the 2017 BMW 5 Series with be WiFi charging enabled and come with Apple Car Play on-board.

Gesture controls are to make a grand appearance on the 2017 5 Series, tying up nicely with BMW’s ongoing efforts towards taking the ConnectedDrive philosophy further along on the evolutionary ladder. The seventh generation 5 Series is the second highest best-seller in BMW’s line-up after the smaller 3 Series. It has been in production since the early seventies. Apart from the sedan, there are two other variants including the 5 Series Touring and the 5 Series GT.  The car should be introduced here in India sometime towards the middle of 2017, following its global launch late next year.
