The Indian automobile market is growing at a steady pace. This steady growth is attracting a lot of international brands to India. One such company is Citroen. The parent company of the Citroen brand is part of the PSA group. The PSA group and the Fiat Chrysler group merged to form the Stellantis group earlier this year. Currently, the Stellantis group has the Jeep and Citroen brands in India. In this article, we will be discussing a car from Citroen that could be a direct Creta rival in the coming future.

Citroen’s SUV

Recently the Peugeot 2008 crossover SUV was spotted without any camouflage doing its test runs on Indian roads. Stellantis group is currently focusing on the Citroen brand for India. Therefore the chances of Peugeot coming to India are very slim. The Peugeot 2008 shares the same CMP1 platform that underpins the newly revealed Citroen C3 crossover. The Peugeot 2008 if introduced in India, then it could directly compete with Hyundai Creta.

Design

The Peugeot 2008 has a sharp design and gets a large grille with sleek headlamps, sculpted bumpers with fog lamps. It also gets body cladding and sharp character lines. The rear of the Peugeot gets tail lights with a unique design that comes with a tripled LED and a blacked-out tail lamp. Peugeot 2008 also sports dual-tone alloy wheels. The car is also expected to get safety features that are common in cars these days, such as six airbags, ABS with EBD, some kind of traction control, and ESP.

Specification

Currently, the Peugeot 2008 is available in petrol and diesel engines globally. The 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine gets three tunes ranging from 100bhp to 155bhp. The diesel engine of the Peugeot 2008 is a 1.5-litre BlueHDi which gets tune range from 100-120bhp depending on its variants. These engines have an option of either a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic gearbox.

Price and Launch

The Stellantis group is aggressively working towards establishing Citroen in India by launching an SUV every year.  We expect this Rs 12 Lakh SUV from Citroen to launch somewhere around 2022. The pricing of this SUV is expected to start from Rs 10 Lakh (ex-showroom). This SUV from Citroen will compete with cars like Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq and Volkswagen Taigun.

All we can do as of now is wait and watch for Citroen to announce their next SUV that will be coming to India.
