With BS6 norms getting implemented in India, many cars had to discontinue their diesel variant. If in today’s scenario the same cars were to get a BS6 compliant diesel engine the story would be different for them for sure. In this article, we discuss our five-car of choice that would sell better if they get a diesel engine.

Renault Duster

Renault Duster

Previously Renault Duster was available in a diesel variant with a 4×4 variant. The car was a flagship product for Renault. Duster was one of the first cars in the compact SUV segment. The 4×4 ability made it a proper SUV for car enthusiasts. Since it’s been a long time Duster has got any update or a new generation coming up. A Duster with a diesel engine with a 4×4 option could definitely work in favor of Renault and help them get more sales from duster. Renault managed to sell 153 units of Duster in August 2021.

Brezza

Maruti Vitara Brezza

Maruti was selling more units of Brezza when they had the diesel variant as LDI, VDI, and ZDI.  The VDI and ZDI variants were available in automatic transmission options along with a manual transmission while the LDI was a base variant with just a manual transmission. A lack of diesel has somewhere impacted the sales figures for Brezza. If Maruti Suzuki could work on getting a BS6 compliant diesel engine for Brezza this could give a good push in terms of sales for the car that already does good numbers.

Maruti S-Cross

Maruti S-Cross

Maruti S-Cross is one of the most underrated cars available from Maruti in India. The car has a strong road presence, premium looks and comes from a reliable brand like Maruti. The car still gets overshadowed by other products from Maruti. Adding a diesel engine to S-Cross could actually pump up the sales for this car from Maruti.

Volkswagen Polo

Volkswagen Polo TDi

Volkswagen’s most popular hatchback the Polo used to get a diesel engine as a TDi variant. The engine was a turbocharged diesel engine and the same was discontinued because of the diesel gate scam. The Polo TDi was a car with a peppy engine and was a fun-to-drive car. Volkswagen offering a diesel variant of Polo would definitely add some more numbers to their sales figures.

2019 Tata Tiago standard safety

Tata Tiago Diesel

The entry-level hatchback from Tata Motors used to get a 1.05-litre Revotorq engine. The car was fun to drive with good torque and the driving experience was simply unmatched. Tata motors had to discontinue the diesel variant because of BS6 norms. If Tata Motors could add a BS6 compliant engine to Tata Tiago. The sales for Tiago will definitely increase with a diesel variant available.
