Why does Maruti not give a sunroof?
Cars have evolved a lot over the years. Manufactures nowadays try their best to enhance the overall cabin experience. Sunroofs are one of the most demanded features in the Indian market as they provide this enhancement to the cabin. Almost all cars above Rs 10 lakh get a sunroof in India. But Maruti, the biggest manufacturer in India, doesn’t offer sunroof in any of their models. Recently CV Raman, senior executive director, Engineering, MSIL, shed some light on why Maruti doesn’t offer sunroof in their cars. Climatic conditions
One of the main reasons behind not offering a sunroof is the climatic conditions in India. Considering India, temperatures can go up to 40-degrees in summers. The sunroof is rendered useless in such heat. The sunroof is more useful in colder countries as it allows the cabin to warm by allowing more sunlight to enter. Also, its use will be very limited and will not offer many benefits to the end consumer. The sunroof also puts extra strain on the air-conditioning system.
Safety hazard and maintenance
Safety is compromised in a lot of aspects when a car has a sunroof. Maruti doesn’t want kids to stick their heads out of the sunroof as it can get really dangerous. Maruti is known for its affordable service bill and doesn’t want to hamper that with sunroofs, as the rubbers and seals on the sunroofs need regular maintenance adding to the service cost. Also if not done properly it can lead to leakage in the cabin causing a lot of issues.
Will Maruti bring a sunroof in the future?
If the demand for sunroofs increases, Maruti may offer them in the future. So we cannot rule out a future Maruti product with a sunroof. With the competition offering it, Maruti may have to bring it sooner than later.
