Maruti Ignis to get a new 1.2-litre diesel – EXCLUSIVE

Maruti is developing a new three-cylinder diesel engine, which has a 1.2-litre displacement. This engine will be powering the Ignis— the new compact crossover that will be of the size of the Grand i10.

Maruti is working towards adding new models in its pipeline and it has planned about 17 launches in the next 3-4 years.

This new 1.2-litre diesel engine is the three cylinder version of the 800cc that is powering the Celerio diesel. This will be producing about 70bhp of power and the 1.5-litre engine will churn about 90-100bhp of power.

Maruti is adding more and more diesel engines in its portfolio as it will be exporting them to Europe as well.

India is the new manufacturing base for Suzuki and it will be shifting a lot of its production from Japan. The company is setting up its third plant in Gujarat and it will be using this plant majorly for exports to the European markets. Maruti Suzuki has plans to launch the new compact SUV (Vitara Brezza), Ignis and one more new product next year. Maruti Suzuki will be looking at its dependence on other automakers for diesel engines. The new-generation of diesel engine will be utilised for all its new upcoming products.

At the 2016 Auto Expo, it should display the new-generation Alto in its concept avatar.

The new Alto will be launched by late 2016 or maybe even early 2017. Maruti Suzuki will be entering several new segments and will even be targeting more premium car buyers.
