Hero MotoCorp, the undisputed king of the motorcycles segment, commanding over 50% of the market, has witnessed an upsurge in scooter sales during the past year. Market share for the segment too has been on the rise and the home-grown two-wheeler manufacturer is now targeting a six percent increase in the coming year, taking it from 14% currently to 20% in 2016. Sales in both, the motorcycle as well as the scooter segment have been strong for the manufacturer in the past year, improving strongly over their performance in the previous one. Its product offerings like the Pleasure (100cc) and the Maestro (110cc) have been received well in the market and have been among the three best-selling scooter models in the country.

Its latest offering in the scooter segment – the Duet should take this strong showing from the company up by a few notches. Both, company officials and industry experts have expressed their confidence in the Duet being the scooter model that would propel Hero MotoCorp towards achieving their ambitious market share target. Both of their latest launches, the Maestro which broke cover in September as well as the Duet which is enjoying a phased roll-out across key markets in India feature heavily in Hero MotoCorp’s plans towards scooter segment dominion in the time to come. Through carefully selected sub-segments and supported by appropriate engineering and targeted styling, the company is hoping that their new launches shall be a hit with customers.

The company currently has an annual installed capacity of 1.3 million units and produces over 6.5 lakh scooters per annum. Clearly, there is plenty of potential towards augmenting sales. Furthermore, Hero MotoCorp is gearing up to the launch of their Global Innovation and R&D Centre in Jaipur, Rajasthan, later this year. The two-wheeler manufacturer is betting huge on leading the pack through an innovative solutions driven approach to their portfolio augmentation plans. The coming year, therefore brings with it a lot of promise for Hero MotoCorp and the expectations of being able to deliver upon them.
