Tata recently unveiled its new micro-SUV, the Punch. The Punch will restart the micro-SUV segment in India, which was established by the Mahindra KUV100 a few years back. The Punch will cater to people looking for an SUV feel in a compact car. Its design is based on the ‘Impact 2.0’ design language. It will come with features like a 7.0-inch floating touchscreen, semi-digital instrument cluster, premium sound system and connected car tech. The Punch is expected to start from somewhere around Rs 6 lakh (on-road).

Hyundai Casper

New SUVs

Like Tata, Hyundai will be entering the micro-SUV segment with its Casper. Casper is expected to continue Hyundai’s quirky design language. It will be targeted more towards the youth. It is expected to come with features like an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, premium sound system, connected car technology and wireless charging. The pricing of the Casper is expected to start from Rs 6 lakh (on-road) in order to compete with the Tata Punch.

MG Astor

The MG Astor is the ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) counterpart of the MG ZS EV. The Astor is coming to shake the affordable SUV segment in the country. The Astor will come with ADAS (Level 2), which will be the first in this segment. Not only this segment, even cars two segments above it don’t come with this. It will also offer a personal assistant similar to Amazon Alexa placed on the dashboard. These features have not been offered by any other car and will surely revolutionize the segment. Mahindra XUV700

The XUV700 is one of the much-awaited upcoming new SUVs this year. The XUV700 is set to revolutionise the segment with its segment-first features like a 3D surround sound system and ADAS (Level 1). Other features like Auto Booster headlamps, personalized safety alerts, wireless charging, drive modes, etc. will further help XUV700 establish itself as a strong player in the market. Apart from the features, the Mahindra XUV700 will come with the most powerful engines in the segment. The XUV700 will easily be able to compete with cars seated two or three segments above it. Mahindra eKUV100

The eKUV100 is the electric counterpart of the KUV100. Mahindra had showcased it at the 2020 Auto Expo. A new segment will establish with this car’s launch. Currently, no cars in this segment come with an EV powertrain. It is expected to get a range of 140km, which can be ideal for city driving. The launch has been delayed due to the pandemic and chip shortage, but it is expected to be launched by the end of this year or early next year.
