Every car leaves its marks on the road and there are some cars that leave an impression on our minds. There have been cars that became iconic and can still manage to turn heads. They have been critical stepping stones for the success of the brand or the Indian automobile market in general. Here are the top five iconic cars that we would like to see again in the market. Let’s begin.

Safest Indian Cars of 2021

Toyota Qualis

Toyota Qualis was in production from 1999 to 2005. Toyota offered the buyers an all-in-one package in the form of Qualis. The car was well built, had comfortable seats, was spacious and gave decent mileage. The Qualis soon became the preferred choice of private cab operators as they could carry more passengers and that too with ease and comfort. The SUV-like stance and the spacious seats made Qualis a car that we would love to see again, even 16 years after it left the production belt.

Maruti Esteem

Top iconic cars

Maruti Esteem as a car will always remain iconic. The car came out as a budget sedan back in the ’90s when the segment was mostly ruled by foreign brands like Honda and Toyota. The Esteem ruled from 1994 to 2008 and was priced around Rs 6 lakh. This car is a favourite amongst people who buy old cars and modify them in order to give them a modern look. It would be really superb to see this car back on the roads. We would really love to see how Maruti would give this car a modern touch.

Mahindra Armada

Mahindra Armada was in production from 1993 to 2001. Armada was the car that evolved to Armada Grand, then to Armada Maxx and finally evolved to be known as Mahindra Bolero. This was quite popular in rural markets and was considered a status symbol. Back in the day, this was mostly used by the police and rural politicians. The car had a diesel engine with a distinct sound and the rattle was something that made it special. We would love to see this car in a modern avatar.

Tata Sumo & Tata Sierra

Tata Sumo was an iconic MPV-cum-SUV manufactured by Tata Motors from 1994 to 2019. This car was named after Suman Moolgaonkar, the man behind Tata Motors back in the day. He was the Chief Executive of Tata Engineering and Locomotive Company (TELCO). Over its lifetime, the Sumo got various names and versions like the Sumo Gold, Sumo Victa, Sumo Grande. This car’s utility and road presence made it an icon. We would really love to see Tata bring back the Sumo.

Top iconic cars

Tata Sierra ruled Indian roads from 1991 to 2003. This was a car that was way ahead of its time. Tata Sierra had a three-door design and was one of the first SUVs manufactured by Tata Motors. It was actually based on a pickup truck from Tata Telcoline 407 and was designed and produced in India. Tata Sierra had a unique wrap-around window for the second row and a three-door design made it iconic. It was one of its kind and no other car to date is able to replace the charisma that Sierra had created. Tata did showcase a modern avatar of the Sierra. We expect to see the car on Indian roads once again.

Back in the day, Ambassador was the car for politicians and defence officials. This car had a unique personality of its own and can easily grab attention, even today.
