Tata Motors has been playing an important part in the development of the EV ecosystem in the Indian market. The brand has already been selling the Tata Nexon. Now, Tata is looking to launch another affordable EV. Recently Tata unveiled the Tigor EV with Ziptron technology. Through Ziptron, the Tigor EV will become more efficient and will offer a better motor. With that being said, Tata did not reveal any range figures in the unveiling, which was surprising. We do have some hints regarding the final range figures, courtesy of some spy shots. In today’s article, we will be discussing the Tata Tigor EV range and other important details regarding it.

What are these new range details?

A spy shot of the Tigor EV is clearly showing the instrument cluster. The cluster is showing a 59% remaining charge and a simultaneous remaining range of 204km. Taking this into consideration, the range at full charge should be around 350km, which will great for an EV in this price range. The battery pack on the Tigor will come with fast charging capabilities. It can go from 0 to 80% in an hour using this fast charger. Normal charging will take 8.5 hours.

Design

The Tigor EV is based on the normal Tigor. Tata has given it some subtle changes to differentiate the two models. It gets a closed-off grille with bumper integrated DRLs and projector headlamps. The car gets signature blue accents at various places to give it the EV touch. The alloy wheels too get the blue accent. On the interior front, the cabin is similar to the normal Tigor, however with some hints of EV blue colour.

Performance

The Ziptron motor is the main highlight of the new Tigor EV. The car gets a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor. The Tigor EV generates power figures of  74bhp (55kW) and 170Nm of torque. Tata claims that the car can go from 0-60km/h in 5.7 seconds. The Tigor EV comes with an IP67-rated 26kWh high energy density Lithium-ion battery. The Tigor EV will come with an 8-year battery warranty or a 1.6 lakh kilometre motor warranty.

The Tigor EV will come with features like a digital instrument cluster, an eight-speaker sound system, reversing camera, a 7.0-inch infotainment system, automatic climate control, fabric upholstery, drive modes, keyless entry and connected car tech. Standard safety features include dual airbags, ABS with EBD, Corner Stability Control, Hill Ascent Assist & Hill Descent Assist will be made available.

Launch & pricing

Since the car has not been officially launched, the pricing does remain a mystery. However, we expect the car to be priced somewhere around 12 lakh to 14.5 lakh (ex-showroom). The final pricing will only be out once the car launches on 31st August.
