Toyota Rs 10 lakh SUV platform

The car could be based on Toyota’s TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) platform; this platform underpins some of Toyota’s recent global launches. This platform can even drive different types of drivetrains like all-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive and front-wheel-drive.  Toyota is yet to introduce this platform in India and this could be the perfect way to do it.

Engine specifications

Which powertrains will be offered on this SUV is yet to be seen exactly, but it is expected that it will offer Maruti’s 1.5-litre petrol engine coupled with the hybrid system from Toyota. A diesel engine is also expected with this car. Transmission options will likely include a five-speed manual gearbox, as well as an optional automatic.

Considering features are a major USP in this segment. It is expected that Toyota will load this car with features like connected car technology, front & rear parking sensors, a 360-degree parking camera, ESP and multiple airbags. Premium features like a big touchscreen infotainment system, electric sunroof, ambient lighting etc. are also expected to be taken care of.

Role of Maruti-Toyota in this case

As mentioned above, Maruti and Toyota are already sharing a lot of their components with each other. Both the brands will be looking to give their unique touches to this product. Maruti will be focusing on the affordable market, while Toyota will target premium customers.

There has been nothing official from Toyota, but this Rs 10 lakh SUV is expected to be launched by 2022. The pricing of this car is expected to start from Rs 10 lakh(ex-showroom).
