Maruti Baleno is one of the most successful premium hatchbacks in its segment. The competition in this segment is cut-throat still the Baleno manages to dominate it. The car has continuously been on the top spot in the sales charts. But the Baleno was launched in 2015 and since then has only gotten a minor facelift in 2019. Seeing Maruti’s push for bringing new generations of existing cars, we expect them to launch the new generation of the Baleno in the coming time. New-generation premium hatchback exterior design
Although the Baleno already has a great design, however, we expect Maruti to heavily tweak it in order to give the new-generation car a fresh appeal. The exterior dimensions are not expected to drastically change. It will get new headlamps and tail lamps, new bumpers, new alloy wheels and a new front grille. The Baleno might get some new colour options, but it will also retain its signature Nexa colours.
Interior design
The interiors have always been the weak point of Maruti cars. The Baleno is expected to come with completely reworked interiors. A new dashboard layout, new seating & upholstery and a new multifunction steering wheel are expected. Maruti may add a sunroof to the Baleno, making it the first Maruti car to come with a sunroof. It should also get engine auto start-stop and new hybrid technology.
Specifications
The new-generation Baleno is expected to retain the 1.2-litre VVT engine that produces 81bhp and 113Nm of torque, however, the engine might be tuned to produce more power. It might get another engine in the form of a 1.0-litre Boosterjet petrol engine. Other than the Boosterjet engine, Maruti might also offer diesel engines with the Baleno. Also, Maruti could bring a hybrid engine that will further help in improving the mileage of the Baleno, something that this premium hatchback is famous for.
New-generation premium hatchback features
The current Baleno already comes decently loaded with features. But nowadays, features have become an important factor for buyers. Some features Maruti can bring on the new-generation Baleno will be wireless charging, wireless Android Auto & Apple Carplay, cruise control and sunroof. On the safety side of things, Maruti may add four airbags and hill hold control.
Launch and price
The Maruti Baleno currently starts at Rs 6.94 lakh and goes all the way up to Rs 10.70 lakh (on-road Mumbai). We expect Maruti to hike the price of the new-generation Maruti Baleno by Rs 50,000 to Rs 60,000 over what it currently sells for. The car is expected to launch in 2022.
