In India, scooters have always been an important mode of transportation due to the crowded city conditions. Electric scooters can be a great alternative with rising fuel prices and increasing pollution kept in mind. After weeks of teasers and leaks, Ola has finally launched the Ola Electric S1 scooter. The Ola scooter is priced from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 1.2 lakh (ex-showroom). Depending on the FAME subsidy in each state the price will differ. Let’s take a closer look now.
The Ola scooter comes with a minimalistic design with twin headlamps surrounded by a rectangular DRL strip. The scooter comes with an all-LED design. It comes with ten colour options- bidge, yellow, white, red, pink, grey, dark grey, dark blue, cyan and black.
The Ola Electric scooter gets the ‘Hyperdrive motor’, which produces 8.5kW. This is more than the 6kW made by the motor on the Ather 450X. The Ola Electric S1 and S1 Pro make 58Nm of torque. The S1 variant has a claimed top speed of 90kph and the S1 Pro will go upto 115kph. Ola claims the best in class 0-40kph acceleration time of 3sec (S1 Pro) and a 0-60kph time of 5sec (S1 Pro), making them the fastest scooters on sale in India. The Ola S1 gets two riding modes – Normal and Sports. The S1 Pro gets an additional riding mode called Hyper where the scooter can hit its top speed of 115km/h. The Ola Electric S1 uses single-sided suspension, disc brakes and 110/70-R12 MRF tyres, at the front and rear.
Ola Electric S1 Range and Charging
The Ola scooter gets a best-in-class range. The S1 and S1 Pro have an claimed range of 121km and 181km, respectively. Both scooters get fixed batteries, with the S1 getting a 2.98kWh pack and the S1 Pro getting a 3.97kWh pack. These numbers are ARAI figures and we will be testing them in real life soon.
The Ola Electric S1 and S1 Pro come with a portable home charger that can fully charge the scooters in a claimed 4.48 hours and 6.30 hours, respectively. The company is developing an Hypercharger network, which claims to be “the world’s largest, densest, fastest 2W charging network with 1 lakh locations across 400 cities” when launched. Ola Electric claims that the hypercharger can fast charge the scooter and give it a 75km range in 18 minutes.
