Apart from being a means of transport, the official state car of the President exhibits the status, power and wealth of a country. These are some of the main reasons, apart from security, why high-ranking dignitaries such as Prime Ministers and Presidents use top-end cars. The President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind uses a Mercedes-Benz S600 Limousine Pullman Guard as the official car. Further in this article, we will tell you all about this Rs 10 crore car that India’s President Kovind uses.
Here’s what we know
The W222 Mercedes-Benz S600 Pullman Guard is the flagship car from the Maybach. Moreover, the stretch Limo is also armoured, it is a bullet and grenade proof vehicle which is specially designed for VVIPs. This 6492mm long car is a custom-built vehicle that meets the requirements of the highest protection class (armour protection level -VR6/VR7).
In layman’s terms, the VR ratings are in essence developed by the agency called the VPAM which is the top-rated agency for testing of armoured vehicles or as they are popularly called ‘Bulletproof Levels’. The body of the car is designed in a way that it could easily resist military rifle shots, fragments from high-intensity grenades and 15kgs of TNT. Moreover, the windows are capable of withstanding AK-56 spray of bullets. There are a ton of other modifications and equipment that the car has been loaded with but since it’s the President’s vehicle, the list is a heavily guarded secret.
The head of the state’s motorcade also consists of the former presidential car, a black Mercedes-Benz W140 armoured limousine, which is now being used as a spare vehicle and is escorted by the security men in five armoured black BMW X5’s and multiple Tata Safari(s) which are a permanent part of the Prime Minister and the President’s convoy. The convoy consists of 20 to 25 armoured cars when the President travels within the city of Delhi, in the case of inter-city travel, the convoy expands up to 170 to 200 cars.
This customised Limo has a rear entrance with increased headroom, four seats behind the driver partition, a reinforcement of the links between the suspension components and the bodyshell. The S600 Pullman Guard is powered by a twin-turbo V12 engine that produces 516bhp and 900Nm of torque.
