India-Bound BMW 1-Series – SPIED
A camouflaged production version of the upcoming BMW 1-Series sedan was spotted testing in China, The new car is said to make its world debut at the 2016 Beijing Auto Show.
The pics reveal an exterior that is heavily inspired from the BMW Concept Compact Sedan that was unveiled at the at the 2015 Guangzhou Auto Show. This prototype has the production-spec headlamps, bumpers, LED taillamps, dual exhaust pipes, which are very similar to Concept compact sedan.
The 1-Series will be based on the FWD UKL platform and the engines are likely to be sourced from the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer. The engines include a 135 bhp 1.5-litre three cylinder turbo petrol, a 150bhp 2.0-litrem three-cylinder turbodiesel, and a 231bhp 2.0-litre four cylinder petrol. These will be mated to a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic transmissions.
As of now, BMW India indicated about launching the BMW 1-Series sedan in the country, given the good demand for entry-level luxury sedans like Audi A3 and Mercedes CLA. BMW may look at locally assembling the 1-Series, when launched in India.
