The Toyota 4Runner in foreign markets comes equipped with full LED headlamps & tail lamps from the base variant, 17-inch alloys, heated ORVMs, roof rails and rear liftgate window defogger with timer & UV protection. Moreover, the colour-keyed rear spoiler with the centre LED high-mount stop light adds to the 4Runner’s sporty look.

Interior and features 

Toyota 4Runner offers fabric-trimmed seats in lower variants and faux-leather upholstery as one goes up the variants. The 4Runner has a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), eight airbags and an electric sunroof (the brand calls it ‘moonroof’). Moreover, Roll-sensing Side Curtain Airbags (RSCA) are also included with an array of safety features like Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Departure Alert (LDA), Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC), which makes the SUV advanced than the Fortuner.

The SUV also comes equipped with features like an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 15 speaker JBL sound system, Wi-fi connectivity inside the cabin, Amazon Alexa compatibility, smartphone-connected features such as Apple CarPlay & Android Auto, powered tailgate glass, flat-fold second-row seats and advanced voice recognition command.

The Toyota 4Runner is powered by a 4.0-litre V6 engine which is capable of producing 266bhp and 377Nm of torque. This engine is governed by a five-speed automatic gearbox. Furthermore, the 4Runner is available with rear-wheel drive and either full- or part-time four-wheel-drive systems. Talking about the dimensions, the 4Runner is 4,831mm long, 1,925mm wide and 1,816mm tall. For reference, the Toyota Fortuner measures around 4,795mm, 1855mm and 1835mm in terms of length, width and height. The numbers show that the 4Runner is bigger than the Fortuner.

Variants and pricing 

This Japanese SUV comes in nine variants and is priced at $36,765 (INR 27.27 lakh) for its entry-level trim, SR5 and goes up to $50,745 (INR 37.64 lakh) for its top-of-the-line TRD Pro trim. 

How did Toyota perform in July?

Looking at the Indian context, the car could really be a great fit for the country. Fortuner buyers do not have a proper car to upgrade to if they wish to choose Toyota again. The 4Runner could really fill the void and bridge the gap between the Fortuner and the brand’s flagship full-size SUV offering, the Land Cruiser (which is expected to make its way to the country in the coming time).
