Volkswagen failing emission norms scandal has a new twist to it.

Just days after VW accepted the charges of flouting the emission norms to Heavy Industries Minister Mr Anant Geete, the transport ministry said that the reports sent to them does not have any evidence of any such violation.

ARAI which is the only automobile research and development board in India had carried out test of VW cars and the results were sent to Ministry of Transportation for the necessary action to be taken.

“But the reports don’t mention violation of test norms. The company has also not admitted or acknowledged flouting any norms. So, there is no evidence. But to get better clarity, we will ask ARAI to respond whether they have detected any violation as per the set norms,” said a ministry official. Further the transport minister Mr.

Nitin Gadkari assured the manufacturer that they will not take any decision in haste and will follow a transparent assessment before any action is taken.

In India, the emission is checked on new vehicles and not of the ones that are on the road. ARAI tested the said vehicles and noted that the emission of a new car are much lower than the prescribed limits but the emissions of the cars that are already on the road are much higher. It will be interesting to see how the government will act on this or will VW get away on a technicality.
