Hyundai Stargazer

Hyundai Ertiga Competition

The new MPV Stargazer from Hyundai will share its platform with Creta. However, it will be of the same length as the Alcazar. This MPV will have the same engine as the Creta. It will get a 1.5-litre petrol engine and later a 1.5-litre diesel engine. With that being said, the chances of the diesel variant of this MPV coming to India seem very slim. The MPV shares the same manual and automatic gearbox as we get on Creta. The price and exact date of launch are not yet disclosed by Hyundai, but we can expect some updates by end of 2021.

Jeep had confirmed the launch of a new seven-seater SUV, currently codenamed H6. This will be one of the upcoming seven-seaters in India. The H6 will be based on the FCA’s Small-Wide 4×4 platform, which also underpins the Compass. The platform will be tweaked to accommodate the third row. Jeep engineers will be working on making the platform stronger. The Jeep H6 seven-seater SUV will use the 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine that powers the Compass. The features provided in the Jeep H6 will include a large touchscreen infotainment system with FCA’s latest U5 Connect technology, cruise control, a panoramic sunroof, 18-inch alloy wheels, ventilated seats, etc. The price and launch date of the Jeep H6 is yet to be disclosed by Jeep.

Kia KY MPV

Kia Motors is also planning to enter the affordable MPV segment in the country. The MPV from Kia will be based on the Seltos. The car is expected to be somewhere around 4500mm long. Kia’s signature Tiger Nose grille, LED headlamps, etc. will be present to add to the style quotient. The car will feature 16-inch alloy wheels and feature the new Kia logo as well.

MG 360M

upcoming seven-seaters in India

MG Motors also showcased a seven-seater MPV during the Auto Expo 2020 called the 360M. This MPV will be one of the upcoming seven-seaters in India. The MG seven-seater is 4615mm long, 1735mm wide, and 1660mm tall. The dimensions make the car approximately 200mm longer than the Ertiga. This difference becomes much more evident on the inside with enhanced knee room, legroom, and boot space. It also gets a wheelbase of 2750mm. The MG gets a maximum boot space of 1350-litres, given the 2nd & 3rd-rows are folded. The MPV 360M will be powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine that will produce 103bhp and 135Nm of torque. This petrol unit is mated to a CVT unit.

Should MG 7-seater competition for Ertiga come to India?

Toyota Ertiga

Just like Baleno and Brezza are sold by Toyota with a different name, Toyota also plans to sell Ertiga with a new name under its brand. This Toyota Ertiga will get a 1.5-litre petrol engine, that will produce 103bhp of power. The engine will support a micro-hybrid technology which will come with a start-stop system. The petrol engine will be a five-speed manual and the other option is a four-speed automatic. This Toyota Ertiga will get projector headlamps, 15-inch tyres, LED tail lamps, touchscreen infotainment system, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, reverse parking camera & sensors, automatic AC, rear AC vents, cruise control, dual airbags, ABS with EBD, etc. Toyota will price this MPV between Rs 9 to Rs 15 Lakh, but the launch date is yet to be confirmed.

Hyundai Palisade

upcoming seven-seaters in India

Palisade, the humongous flagship SUV from Hyundai sold in the global market could be the next car to come to India. A 3.8-litre naturally-aspirated V6 petrol engine is provided with the Hyundai Palisade abroad. This engine produces 291hp and 355Nm of torque. The car has an all-wheel-drive system with an eight-speed automatic transmission as standard. We do not expect to see the V6 in India since it will be a costly affair for the brand. We expect Hyundai to re-tune the 2.2-litre diesel engine which the brand had made available with the India-specific Santa Fe. This engine was capable of producing 194bhp and 420Nm of torque.
