The SUV market has been growing rapidly in India. Big bold looks, higher ground clearance and higher seating position have made this body type very popular. Though the compact and mid-size SUVs rule this market, there is also a decent chunk of buyers for the full-size SUVs. This segment has cars like the Ford Endeavour, Toyota Fortuner, Mahindra Alturas G4, Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace and the MG Gloster. A lot of manufacturers are also considering entering this segment, one of them being Hyundai who is evaluating the Palisade for India. In today’s article on Hyundai Palisade vs MG Gloster, we will have a look at whether the Korean SUV could become the best-in-segment in the country.

The Gloster comes only in diesel automatic engine options. It gets a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine that is capable of producing 161bhp and 375Nm of torque. This unit comes mated to an eight-speed torque converter gearbox and powers the rear wheels. The Gloster also gets a 2.0-litre twin-turbo-diesel engine that makes 215bhp and 480Nm of torque. This unit also comes mated to an eight-speed torque converter gearbox. However, this engine powers all wheels via a 4WD system.

Upcoming MG cars in India – Competition to heat up

The Palisade in international markets comes powered by a 3.8-litre V6 engine that makes 291bhp and 262Nm of torque. We don’t expect this to be a feasible choice for India since bringing a V6 is a costly affair. Moreover, the torque figures are not at par with what the competition offers. For that reason, we expect the Palisade to come with the 2.2-litre diesel engine that powered the Santa Fe in India. This engine was capable of producing 194bhp and 420Nm of torque. Hyundai might tune the engine to increase the power output. We expect the car to only come with an automatic gearbox.

Hyundai Palisade vs MG Gloster features

The Gloster is the first SUV to bring ADAS functionality in India. It gets adaptive cruise control, hands-free parking and auto braking functionality. Other features that the Gloster gets are a 12-inch infotainment system with wireless connectivity, wireless charging, massage seats, three-zone automatic climate control, connected car tech, a panoramic sunroof and a 12-speaker sound system.

Upcoming Hyundai N Line cars – What could they be like?

The Palisade sold outside India comes loaded with features like forward collision avoidance assist, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot assist, 360-degree camera, ambient lighting, 12-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, safe exit assist, 10-inch infotainment system with wireless connectivity and ventilated seats and much more. We expect Hyundai to bring segment-first features to disrupt this segment.

Hyundai Palisade vs MG Gloster pricing

The pricing of the Gloster starts from Rs 36.28 lakh and goes up to Rs 44.89 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). There is no official confirmation from Hyundai regarding the Palisade, but we expect it to come to India with a price tag of around Rs 40 lakh. This will be very competitive pricing for the Palisade.
