Great Wall Motors (GWM) is a Chinese carmaker and Tank is their new sub-brand. Recently at the Shanghai Auto Show in April they had the Tank 300 Cybertank, Tank 700, and the Tank 800 concept models on display. A few days ago, GWM released design sketches of their new SUV. This is going to be their fourth car in the line-up of Tank Series called the Tank 600. The sketches so far give a fair glimpse of what the actual production model could look like. In today’s article, we will look at the Great Wall Motors Tank 600 and discuss what it actually is. Let’s go.
What do we know so far about the Tank 600?
GWM will place this SUV above the Tank 300 and below the Tank 700. The Tank 800 continues to be the top-of-the-line flagship model offered by GWM. The Tank 600 is said to resemble the Haval H9, which is also built by GWM. However, the Tank 600 will be offered as a more premium, spacious, and luxurious product and will compete against Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, which is considered to be its main rival. Apart from this, the Tank 600 is scheduled to make its official public appearance at the Chengdu Motor Show in August this year.
The Great Wall Motors Tank 600 SUV is expected to be 5050mm long, 1934mm wide and 1905mm tall. This premium SUV will sit on a 2850mm long wheelbase. These dimensions reveal the Tank 600 to be a tad bit bigger than its main rival, the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado.
From the sketches that were released, this car definitely looks stylish and aggressive. The dimensions mentioned give us a picture of an upright stance with heavily garnished chrome fittings. The huge, single-piece grille features horizontal chrome slats with a thick chrome surround. The bumper will use a lot of chrome. The flat front fascia and tail section complement each other and balance the look of this car with squarish LED headlamps and tail lamps.
The Tank 600 is a traditional body-on-frame SUV. The Tank 600 will be made available with three engine options; 2.0-litre, 2.4-litre, and 3.0-litre engines. The 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 engine will be the most powerful and will come mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission. This unit will produce close to 350bhp and 500Nm of torque. Tank 700 also shares the same 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 engine.
India launch expectations
As mentioned above, the Tank 600 is scheduled to make its official public appearance at the Chengdu Motor Show in August this year. The Chengdu Motor Show is scheduled to take place from 27th August to 5th September. GWM is planning to sell the Tank 600 in China by the end of this year. GWM is also planning for an annual production goal of 60,000 units. After China, Australia could be the next place where GWM will be selling their Tank 600. With that being said, we don’t see the Great Wall Motors Tank 600 SUV coming to India anytime soon.
