The Fiat Tipo hatchback has been finally unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show. This car is pitted against the Volkswagen Golf. The car has been lately spotted several times testing.

Fiat Tipo Hatchback Design

The name Tipo which means ‘type’ in Italian was originally used for a small family car between 1988 and 1995, and it even won the European Car of the Year prize in 1989.The Fiat Tipo will rival some of the world’s biggest selling cars like the VW Golf and Ford Focus and will replace the Fiat Bravo in international markets. Fiat also unveiled an estate version of the Tipo.  The Tipo was designed in Italy and developed in Turkey, where it sells as the Egea.

The front portion is identical to the Tipo sedan , except that it gets LED DRLs in the headlamps and a redesigned front bumper.  The main difference is beyond the C pillar, where it takes the shape of a hatchback. The rear end compliments the front and comes across as a pleasing design and also looks premium. It has elongated two-piece taillamps and a wide glass area.

The interiors are same as the sedan which is contemporary and functional. It features a single-pod instrument cluster, the same three-spoke multifunction steering wheel, audio system with Bluetooth (Blue & Me). Higher variants will feature a five-inch UConnect infotainment touchscreen, and auto dimming rear view mirrors too. The boot is a huge one at 420 litres, as much as some sedans. The Fiat Tipo even has climate control and other features that come on the Egea.

In terms of space, there is good enough room for front and rear passengers. The rear seats fold flat to make it a large enough boot. The Tipo hatchback is flexible and this makes it a good option to consider.

Fiat Tipo Hatchback Engine

The Tipo hatchback borrows its diesel engines from the Tipo sedan, which includes two Multi-jet turbo-diesel engines and two petrol engines. Power output ranges from 93bhp to 118bhp, and is mated to a six-speed manual as well as asix-speed utomatic gearbox. There is also an option of a dual clutch which is available with the diesel engine.

Fiat Tipo Hatchback for India?

Sales of the Tipo are expected to start in Europe by early to mid 2016 and it will even get a RHD version for the UK. The Tipo hatchback may not make it to India as large hatchbacks do not exactly have a market here. And the Italian automaker  has a different strategy for developing markets when compared to developed markets.
