MG has enjoyed a successful run in the country. In its short time, it has also entered the EV market in India with its ZS EV. MG entered the premium EV space early on, giving it an early mover advantage. The only car it competes with is the Hyundai Kona, but both these cars are expensive. The Nexon EV is the more budget-friendly option. Being a compact SUV also helps the Nexon EV. Currently, the Nexon EV has no competition in this segment. MG is looking to bring in a new electric vehicle that will cost under Rs 20 lakhs. This article will look at the MG Nexon EV rival and when it will come.

Design and size
With this new MG Rs 18 lakh EV, the brand is looking to rival the Tata Nexon. So like the Tata Nexon, the MG EV will most likely be a sub-four metre vehicle. It will draw inspiration from the ZS EV in its design and looks. This MG EV will compete with the Nexon and also cars like the upcoming Mahindra eXUV300 and Altroz EV. As EV technology develops, the competition is getting a lot fierce in this segment.
MG Rs 18 lakh EV
MG might use the same powertrain that it uses on the ZS EV. The car is thus expected to get a 44.5KWH hi-tech battery pack with the aim of maximizing range over perfomance. It could boast a range of 400 plus kilometers (actual range figures may vary depending on actual use). MG will keep the price down may skimp on features. The car could miss out on the panoramic sunroof and MG’s Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS).
Launch and pricing
Like all the other cars, the MG Rs 18 lakh EV also has been delayed due to the ongoing pandemic and the chip shortage. Earlier it was expected to launch in 2022, but now the launch may be pushed to 2023. The Pricing of the MG EV should be competitive to rival the Tata Nexon. It should be priced somewhere between Rs16 lakh to Rs 18 lakh (ex-showroom).
