Renault India, after the successful launch of the Duster wanted another go at the market with the Kwid. At a launch price of INR 2.95 lakh (on-road Delhi) they are hoping this would help them to achieve a total of 5% of the market share. In a growing economy like India that is no easy task.

But it looks like the Kwid will be able to just do that for them. There is an overwhelming response for the car. It has clocked over 40,000+ bookings in the first two months from launch!! The car checks most of the boxes of any entry level car buyer checklist today. It has a digital speedometer and also has an option for 7” touch screen audio system. This all in a car that costs almost as much as a Maruti 800 and Tata Nano!!

But it looks like Mother Nature had different plans. Earlier last week, Renault India, along with few other car manufacturers who operate in Chennai, had to suspend its production due to heavy rains. Customers who have booked the vehicle already can expect a waiting period of almost 10 months. We hope that this does not derail the product as it is quite promising but this definitely will make impatient car buyers hunt elsewhere.

Renault has almost 70,000 bookings for the car already and they are currently busy gearing up production to make sure that they do not lose any clients due to the natural calamity. The Kwid is powered by a three-cylinder 799cc engine mated to a five-speed gearbox. Together they produce around 53bhp and 72Nm of torque. From experience we know that Renault makes fuel efficient cars and this is not exception. The official ARAI testing figures show that the car can achieve a mileage of 25.17km/l under test conditions.
