MG has got a good hold on the Indian car market, especially in the mid-size SUV segment with its Hector. This mid-size SUV gives a tough competition to other cars like Tata Harrier, Jeep Compass, etc. Premium features and powerful engine options make this a great value-for-money product. With that being said, a new brand will enter India in the coming time. We are talking about Haval. With the products that we expect it to enter with, the brand could surely rise to fame in no time. In today’s article, we will look at the new MG Hector competition and discuss the possibility of it becoming a segment-killer. Let’s go.

Haval SUVs in India – Our expectations

Design & Dimensions

New MG Hector competition

The Haval H6 gets a bold design that will help it be at par with the other cars in the segment. An aggressive front grille, LED headlamps & tail lamps and uniform proportions give the car the much-required SUV appeal. The car gets an upmarket cabin with premium elements like a floating touchscreen infotainment system, fully digital instrument cluster and a big multi-function steering wheel. The centre console divides the 1st-row space. The Haval H6 is available in foreign markets like Australia where it is 4653mm long, 1886mm wide and 1724mm tall. It sits on a 2738mm wheelbase and gets 170mm of ground clearance.

Specifications

The Haval H6 is expected to come powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine. This unit makes 161bhp & 280Nm of torque and comes mated to a 7-speed DCT gearbox. We expect Haval to use the same setup in the country, however, with a manual gearbox as well. Along with this, the brand might provide a 2.0-litre petrol engine as well, given it wants to focus on the performance game in the segment. The 2.0-litre engine, if made available, will come with a 4WD system.

New MG Hector competition features

Haval H6 is expected to come with features that will help it establish a great value-for-money game in the market. Electronic parking brake with Auto Hold, all-wheel disc brakes, driving modes, panoramic sunroof, automatic headlamps & wipers, ventilated seats and 360-degree parking camera being some key features. Although we expect multiple segment-first features on this car as well, the H6 is mostly expected to be known for its safety features. 7 airbags, Hill Descent Control, Hill Assist Control, TPMS, traction control, ESP and ISOFIX could be some safety features. With that being said, ADAS could be a feature that the Haval is mostly expected to come with. With ADAS on board, features like Lane Change Assist, Park Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, etc. would become available.

New MG Hector competition pricing

New MG Hector competition

As far as pricing is concerned, we expect the new MG Hector competition to start somewhere around Rs 16 lakhs and go up to Rs 25 lakhs (on-road). With this pricing, the H6 would directly compete with Hector. Moreover, with the features that are expected to come with it, the car could really give a tough fight to Hector along with other cars in the segment.
