MG had a great start in India with its Hector. This mid-size SUV helped MG gain a firm hold in the Indian car market. After the success of Hector, the brand also launched the Gloster and the ZS EV. Now, the brand is gearing up to launch another car in the Indian car market, the MG Astor. The Astor will compete in the C-SUV segment, which is dominated by the products like Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. Today’s article will deal with 5 things that you should know about the upcoming MG Astor.

The MG Astor will come based on the ZS EV, however, the brand will give it some subtle changes to help it differentiate from the ZS EV. Astor will get a redesigned front with slimmer full-LED headlamps, a new hexagonal grille and chunkier bumpers. The rear will also get sharper LED tail lamps, a prominent faux skid plate and new bumpers. The car will also get a new alloy design.

The Astor will get some unique elements in the cabin. A floating touchscreen infotainment system, new buttons for the centre console and separate adjustable headrests for every passenger will be some of the key differences. With that being said, elements like the multi-function steering wheel will directly be borrowed from the ZS EV.

Upcoming MG Astor engine options

upcoming MG Astor

MG will most likely offer Astor with petrol engine options only. We are expecting a 1.5-litre petrol engine that will make 118bhp & 150Nm of torque and a 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine that will make 161bhp & 230Nm of torque. MG is also expected to offer a hybrid option for average-conscious customers. The Astor will come with manual and automatic transmission options.

Features

As with other MG cars, the Astor will also come loaded with features. The car will get MG’s famed connected car tech, i-SMART. Other features like a 10.1-inch infotainment system with the latest connectivity options, wireless charging, electronic parking brake with Auto Hold, fully digital instrument cluster and ventilated seats are also expected to be included. It will also come with safety features like multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, Electronic Stability Control, Hill Start Assist and a few others.

Launch and Pricing

MG Astor will most probably be launched by the end of 2021. The car has been spotted testing multiple times, hinting towards an imminent launch. The pricing is expected to be a key factor for MG. We expect Astor to start somewhere around Rs 10 lakhs (on-road). This pricing will help it undercut competition like Hyundai Creta, Kia Selto and the recently launched Skoda Kushaq.
