The SUV segment is one of the fastest-growing segments in India. In this segment, there are a lot of sub-segments which include the compact SUV segment. Compact cars are basically under four meters but offer SUVish looks and high ground clearance. A lot of manufacturers have products in this segment or are looking to enter it soon. Here are five upcoming sub-4m SUVs.
Citroen is one of the newest entrants into the Indian car market. The brand launched the C5 last year which is a big SUV but is on the expensive side. To cater to a larger audience Citroen will be looking to bring in a C3 sub-4m SUV. The C3 will come with a lot of features like connected car tech, touchscreen infotainment, auto AC and alloy wheels. The car is expected to launch in 2022.
Jeep sub-4m SUV
Currently, Jeep only has two cars in their portfolio Compass and Wrangler both of which are bigger and expensive. To fill this gap Jeep is looking to bring in a sub-compact SUV speculated to be named Junior. Jeep will not skimp on its traits and may offer all wheel drive on the Junior which will be a first in this segment. The car is expected to launch in 2022. It will be built in collaboration of Jeep’s sister company, Citroen under the Stellantis group.
Tata has raked in good sales due to their SUV lineup. Tata is bringing a micro-SUV called the Tata HBX to its SUV line-up. The HBX will cater to people looking for an SUV-like feel but want a smaller and more affordable car. It will come with adjustable headrests, rectangular AC vents, a floating touchscreen unit, semi-digital instrument cluster and steering mounted controls. The car is expected to launch late in 2021. It will sit between the Altroz and the Nexon in the company line up.
Hyundai is also looking to compete with Tata in the new micro-SUV segment with its AX1. The AX1 will come loaded with features like an 8-inch infotainment system, a rear-view camera, keyless entry, wireless charging and power-folding mirrors. The car is targeted at the youth and will have a quirky design language. The car is expected to launch later this year or in early 2022. It’s design language will be on the same lines as the Hyundai Venue.
Honda does have a compact car in the form of WR-V but it is more of a crossover than an SUV. To fill in this gap we expect Honda to bring in the ZR-V. Currently, there is not much information is available about the ZR-V. But Honda has no cars in the SUV segment so it is a product under evaluation.
