With the shift towards petrol engines in the BS6 era, manufacturers have started focusing on providing us with better petrol options than spending their money on developing cleaner diesel engines. A lot of new SUVs are arriving in the market with only petrol engines as the only available option. Petrol SUVs are slightly sportier than their diesel counterparts but at the same time, they have the downside of being slightly less fuel-efficient. In this article, we are going to give you five options of petrol SUVs to consider which have their unique place in the Indian car market.

Hyundai Alcazar beat these cars in just 13 days!

Mahindra Thar

Mahindra Thar is a pure off-road-based SUV that has now been tuned to even suit the daily life of the owner. The car is a good blend of rugged nature and strong build quality while keeping the creature comforts intact. We consider the Mahindra Thar in this list of top five petrol SUVs as it gives us a great balance between road focus and daily city driving. The Mahindra Thar gets a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine which makes 150bhp and 300 (with MT)/320 (with AT) Nm of torque. The engine might not be the most fuel-efficient engine that you can have but it has enough punch to tackle off-road as well as does not feel lacking like the old Mahindra Thar.

Hyundai Alcazar is a recently launched seven-seater SUV from Hyundai. This SUV gets a 2.0-litre petrol engine. This engine makes 159bhp and 191Nm of torque, the most power that a petrol engine makes in that segment. Hyundai claims a fuel efficiency of 14.5 km/l with this unit. This becomes a great option as it is one of the most featured-packed SUVs that you can buy as of now. Even the base model is well equipped and the Rs 20 lakhs price mark makes it quite lucrative to choose over the Hyundai Creta.

Skoda Kushaq

The Skoda Kushaq is the first and the latest SUV offering of 2021 from the brand. This SUV comes with only petrol engine options, both of them being turbocharged. There is a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine that makes 147bhp  and 250Nm of torque. This engine comes equipped with active cylinder technology which shuts off the fuel supply and cam action of the cylinder two and three when the engine is on the low power requirement. This makes the turbocharged 1.5-litre engine quite fuel-efficient. Along with this, there is also the option of opting for a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine that makes 113bhp and 175Nm of torque. Both these engines are paired with 6-speed manual gearboxes. The bigger engine gets seven-speed DCT whereas the smaller engine gets a six-speed automatic. Also, the Skoda Kushaq is laden with a lot of simply clever features. This is the reason why we recommend this SUV over the other rivals that almost offer the same capacity engine options.
