The world is moving quickly towards adopting electric vehicles, steadily shunning cars powered by conventional engines. This means that an EV would be needed in every price bracket for the customers to buy. For this, every carmaker would have to come forward with their respective electric cars and this is exactly what Renault is doing. The brand is planning to launch 10 battery electric vehicles (BEVs) by 2025. Recently, the brand made clear its plans of reviving its iconic ‘5 Turbo’ in an electrified avatar as well. In today’s article, we will discuss the Renault 5 EV and also look at if this could make its way to India.

MG Nexon EV rival coming soon!

What is the Renault 5 EV?

This EV is an amalgamation of an iconic nameplate with the technology of the future. The new car will take cues from the original car and give it a modern avatar. The low, aerodynamic design will be retained, with the car now supposed to come with modern elements like LED treatment for the lighting setup and many other elements. Coming to the platform, the 5 EV will come based on the brand’s CMF-BEV platform. This platform will be used by Renault for its electric city hatchbacks.  This platform will also help Renault reduce the cost of the vehicles by 33%. However, the reduced costs would not rob the EV of its impressive range figures. The platform will enable a maximum driving range of close to 400km. The car is set to enter production somewhere around 2024.

Updated Renault Duster – What does India miss out on?

Could it come to India?

India is a market where ‘value-for-money is a major deciding factor. Products need to really return the value for the money they ask for. Now, the Renault 5 EV is touted to come with a price tag of around Rs 24.5 Lakh (in foreign markets). However, if the Indian market is concerned, this price bracket is occupied by products like MG ZS EV and Hyundai Kona Electric. Renault would need to bring down the prices if the Renault 5 EV comes here. For that, the brand could locally assemble this EV here. With that being said, only time will tell if this vehicle makes it to the country.
