China has been the largest car vehicle market for a lot of manufacturers across the world. Most cars sold in the world are in the Chinese market and it drives the automobile industry of the world in many ways. To give you an idea the top hundred cars sold in China contribute to about 70% of sales in the world. In this article, we are going to take a look at the top 10 highest selling cars in China. Also, make a note that not many of these cars are available in India.
This is a sedan from Volkswagen that is about 4.6 m long. It comes with three engine options – a 1.6-litre naturally aspirated, 1.4-litre turbocharged and 1.8-litre turbocharged engine. This car is based on the fifth-generation Volkswagen Jetta. This car is positioned between the Volkswagen Bora and Volkswagen Passat in China. This car takes the 10th spot on the list.

Buick Excelle GT
This is another sedan that takes up the eighth spot on this list. It is a re-badged version of the Chevrolet Traverse. This car comes with 1.3-litre three-cylinder eco-tech engine along with a mild hybrid system. This car provides a mileage of 18 km/l. This is a car that has replaced the Chevrolet Cruz or as it is called in China the Buick Verano. This car amounts to 1.5% of the Chinese market share.
At the seventh spot, the Volkswagen Bora amounts for 1.6% market share in China. The Volkswagen Bora shares its platform with Lavida which is another sedan from Volkswagen and is also on this list. This car comes with two engine options namely a 1.6-litre naturally aspirated engine and a 1.4-litre turbo petrol engine. This car is 4562 mm long.
The Toyota Corolla is a very popular car across the world. This car takes up sixth place in the Chinese bestselling car list as it manages to capture 1.7% of the market share. This too is a sedan and is available with a hybrid engine option. The car comes with a 2.0-litre engine that makes 169 bhp of power and 204 Nm of torque. This comes with a six-speed manual and a CVT transmission. Being a hybrid this car is also quite fuel-efficient.
Wuling Hong Guang Mini EV
This is a very small two-door EV that sells in China like hotcakes. Being an EV it manages to compete with other IC engine cars and takes the fifth spot in this list of highest selling cars of China. This vehicle contributes to about 1.8% market share of the total vehicle sales in China. This EV costs about Rs 3 lakh and is the budget EV car for China. This car was launched as a part of a joint venture between SAIC and General Motors. The electric motor on this vehicle claims to make 17 bhp of power and 85 Nm of torque. This EV gets a maximum range of 170 km and can be charged using a 240 volt outlet.
Volkswagen’s bestselling sedan is the Lavida. This car takes the fourth spot when it comes to sales. It has about 1.8% market share in the Chinese automobile market. Four engine options are ranging from a 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine to a 1.6-litre naturally aspirated engine. The key highlight of this car is the high quality and bulletproof engine. Also, Volkswagen keeps updating this sedan every year keeping it fresh for the Chinese audience to pick.
The Changan CS75 Is a 4.6 m long SUV that comes with two engine options. You can either choose from a 2.0-litre naturally aspirated engine or a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine. The turbo petrol engine makes 158 bhp whereas the naturally aspirated engine makes 177 bhp of power. This SUV is right in third place where it takes up about 1.9% of the market share in China. It has a ground clearance of 119 mm This SUV comes with both six-speed manuals as well as six-speed automatic transmission.
The Haval H6 is being considered for India. We expect this car to be announced soon. The first generation is being sold in China. It captures about 2% market share in the Chinese automobile market. This SUV comes with two engine options. There is also a four-wheel-drive system available. In this list, the Haval H6 sits at the second spot of top 10 selling vehicles in China.
The top-selling car in China is a sedan from Nissan. It is 4.6 meter in length. This sedan costs about Rs 12 lakh for its base variant. The Nissan Sylphy 2.4% market share and takes the number one spot in the list of top-selling cars in China.
