In the Indian car market, there are a lot of cars that are going to be launched completely fresh. Also, there have been certain successful products that are awaiting a generation change. These products will be launched or unveiled in the coming months. In this article, we are going to go through such products which are expected in a new generation avatar.

Tata EV plans – What’s the roadmap?

Tata Nexon

First on the list is the Tata Nexon. The Tata Nexon had received a facelift during the launch of the EV in 2019. This facelift has changed the way people look at the Tata Nexon and also made it into a car that looks much more modern and in tune with current times. As of now, it has been two years since Tata has updated this product and a new generation could be introduced next year. The new generation product will have to be based on the ALFA platform on which the HBX and Tata Altroz have been made. The current gets a five-star safety rating and with the generation update, we expect Tata to keep this rating intact. The new generation Tata Nexon could also see support for a hybrid powertrain. There is no official launch date or announcement for this product.

Maruti Vitara Brezza

Maruti Vitara Brezza will get all generation update soon. We are expecting to see the first glimpse of it at the Auto Expo next year. With the Maruti Vitara Brezza, we are expecting to see a hybrid powertrain. Also, there will be a platform change as the car will now be based on the HEARTECT platform. Apart from the changes on the new generation model we are soon expecting a diesel engine to make its debut on the Maruti Vitara Brezza. With the generation update, we could also see certain features that Maruti Vitara Brezza has not been offering but we get those on the other cars in the segment. A slight increase in dimensions is expected but it will remain a sub-four meter.

Renault Duster

The Renault Duster has recently got a facelift in the global market. We are expecting a new-gen Duster in India. The platform of this car will be replaced with the CMF-B platform. This would allow for electrification as well as make space for hybrid engines and battery packs in the vehicle. In India, we see that Renault has patented a Duster design application for the third generation. The SUV is expected somewhere around 2022 or 2023. There is also a chance that Renault Duster could have a seven-seater version called the Grand Duster or Bigster. We could also see the comeback of the all-wheel-drive Renault Duster too.

Volkswagen Taigun Spotted again – What do we know till now?

Honda Jazz

Honda Jazz is now internationally called Honda Fit. The Honda new generation Jazz was expected in India during the BS6 transformation. This new generation of Jazz could become the perfect competitor for the Hyundai i20. It also comes with a hybrid powertrain. This new generation Jazz will include a lot of premium features like two spoke steering wheel, 7 inch digital instrument cluster and Honda Magic seats. There would also be an electric sunroof and other bits which would put it up against the Hyundai i20 in the Indian car market. We do not have much information on whether Honda will be bringing this to India. Sooner or later they will have to update the Honda Jazz. As of now, the Honda Jazz is one of the least sold premium hatchbacks. If this continues, Honda might discontinue this premium hatchback and would bring something more relevant for the Indian audience.

Maruti Celerio

Maruti Celerio has been spotted testing a couple of times. We are expecting the base hatchback to be launched in a coming couple of months. The major changes will include a platform change which now will become of HERTECT platform. This platform will enable better safety. We are also expecting Maruti to give this car a lot of segment-first features so that it becomes more relevant for the new type of buyer who is keen upon having loads of features in his car. Although these features would not be expected right from the base variant and only the top-end model would be completely loaded. Although Maruti is developing a diesel engine we do not expect them to add such a big diesel engine in the small car market.

Maruti Alto

The Maruti Alto is the next small car expected to arrive after the launch of the Maruti Celerio. This new generation Maruti Alto will comply with the new safety norms of offering two airbags at the front. It will have basic features like power windows, air-con and a music system. This will be a bare basics vehicle that will be suitable for a lot of first-time buyers. As of now the price of the Maruti Alto reaches almost Rs.4,00,00 (on road). We do not expect Maruti to make a lot of changes on this vehicle as it would lead to a much higher price tag for the base model. Being an entry-level car Maruti will price it accordingly.
