Hyundai has announced the 2021 i20 N for the UK. This is offered for €24,905. It rivals against the Ford Fiesta ST and is a hot hatch. The car is expected to be launched by October. In India, we get the regular Hyundai i20 and the N-line is expected soon. In this article, we are going to go through the N series of the Hyundai i20 and see if this car is fit to rival the Skoda Octavia VRS.

Hyundai i20 N Engine

This hot hatch comes with a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine. This engine makes about 201 bhp of power and 275 Nm of torque. In over-boost mode, the car makes 304Nm of torque and all of it is delivered to the front wheels. This engine is paired with a six-speed manual transmission. It claims 0-100 km time of 6.2 seconds. It gets five driving modes and auto rev-matching along with launch control.

There is a mechanical limited-slip differential standard on this vehicle. It comes with Pirelli P Zero tyres which are mounted on 18-inch alloy wheels. The front discs are 320mm and get red callipers.

Against the Skoda Octavia vRS

Now if €24,900 converts to Rs 22 lakhs approx. If this hot hatch comes to India it would be priced about at Rs 44 lakhs with India’s very high import duties. This comes close to the price of the Skoda Octavia vRS. In terms of power the Octavia vRS is better than the i20 N. The Octavia is also bigger and will offer more space. The Hyundai is a bit quicker at 0-100km/h with 6.2 seconds compared to the Octavia’s 6.6 seconds. The real catch is the Hyundai i20 N comes with a manual transmission which the Skoda Octavia does not come with. This could be a great offering for a lot of enthusiasts. We don’t think this car will come to India soon. But if Hyundai wants to flex its muscle in the performance zone, this car makes a good option.
