Suzuki has enjoyed decent success with the 155cc Gixxer and it’s fully-faired sibling – the Gixxer SF. It now appears that the Japanese two-wheeler manufacturer might be gearing up to expand the Gixxer brand with the introduction of a quater-litre range sometime in early 2016.

According to reports, Suzuki is likely to launch the fully-faired version of the 250cc Gixxer in a bid to make an entry into the hotly contested battle ground that is the quarter litre sport bike class. This new motorcycle shall go up against the well-established competition including the KTM-Bajaj RC200, the Honda CBR250R and Bajaj’s Pulsar RS200.

On the chassis and underpinnings front, the 250cc Gixxer is said to borrow heavily from its lower cc sibling. The single downtube frame for example, shall be shared across the model-range.

Suzuki are certain to beef it up suitably to cope with the additional power available on tap. The single-cylinder architecture will be based on the existing 155cc layout, though Suzuki shall most likely offer it in fuel-injected guise, in keeping with the segment requirements.

On the running gear front, expect a newer swing arm, premium tires and upgraded brakes along with ABS to be offered, at the bare minimum.

If previous renderings are to be believed, then Suzuki is likely to base the styling inputs for the 250cc Gixxer on its larger, litre-class siblings, rather than the younger ones.

Don’t be surprised to see a near-replica of the full-size Gixxer when the 250cc launches some time early next year.

The upcoming Auto Expo in Delhi should see an unveiling of this new quarter litre motorycle, if estimates are to be believed.
