On the Maruti Ciaz, you get a 1.5-litre petrol engine with smart hybrid technology. The Maruti petrol engine is quite refined and gives a good mileage. On the other hand, the diesel engine has a lot of torque on offer which makes it easy to drive and also gives good mileage. Both these engines make about 100 bhp and there isn’t much power difference. The size of the Hyundai i20 is small and yes, it smaller than the Maruti Ciaz. Other engines that are offered on the Hyundai are petrol engines. One is a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine and a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. The turbo petrol engine comes with DCT as well as CVT transmission. There is no automatic transmission available for the diesel variant of the Hyundai i20.

The Hyundai i20 is a sub-four metre premium hatchback whereas the Maruti Ciaz at 4490mm is a long sedan. In terms of width, the Hyundai i20 has a width of 1775 mm whereas the Ciaz is smaller at 1730 mm. The Hyundai also offers more headroom as it is taller at 1505 mm and the Maruti Ciaz at 1485 mm. Both have the same ground clearance of 170 mm. The legroom in the Maruti Ciaz is more as the sedan has a wheelbase of 2650 mm and the hatchback has a wheelbase of 2580 mm. But the i20 for its size does well in terms of rear seat comfort. The only place it is truly trumped by the Ciaz is bootspace.

The Maruti Ciaz gets only 2 airbags. Both of them have ABS with EBD and ESP. There hill hold and traction control on both. Also, the Hyundai has better storage inside the cabin in the form of a cooled glove box etc. The seats are comfortable on both but the Hyundai gets leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear knob adding to its appeal. You get a 60 40 spilt for the rear seat on the Ciaz which is missing on the Hyundai. There is no sunroof on the Maruti which is a cool feature to have nowadays. Both these vehicles have their pros and cons. The Hyundai i20 is targeted to a buyer who wants a great looking car and features to boast. It is a smart pick as it offers a lot for the money. The Maruti Ciaz has targeted more simple users. The driving comfort for the driver and rear passengers is far better than the Hyundai i20. The i20 is adequetly comfortable, has a more involving driving character and the diesel engine is good for mileage and smooth driving. The interior, touchscreen and other features also feel more premium.  This brings us to the conclusion that the Hyundai is a better pick as it is more versatile in terms of catering to its customers. The Ciaz is the most value for money sedan in the market.
