The Ninja 650R has been a brilliant move from Kawasaki. Introduced to Indians only four years ago, it has quickly gone on to garner a dedicated fan following. Since then, Kawasaki have augmented their lineup with a host of exciting models and cemented its name as a serious big-bike manufacturer in India.

Having said that, three years is a long time for any motorcycle to go without an update, and the Ninja 650R has been crying for one since some time now. Kawasaki had unveiled the updated Ninja 650R earlier this year and Indian fans should be able to get their hands on it beginning 2016. What’s more, the updates are also to be extended to the naked version of the Ninja 650R – the ER6n.

Barring a new fuel filter for the middle-weight tourer, all other updates are on the cosmetic front. A new colour scheme shall be introduced for 2016 with the green shade on the fairing fading into white. Kawasaki is also going glossy on the plastics, a change from the matte finish that it offers on the bike currently. The ER6n receives similar updates with green highlights being offering on the black colour variant. Apart from this, there are a few other changes that should make their way in for the 2016 model year. Kawasaki are likely to update their logo as well for next year.

Taking the ‘don’t upset a good thing’ approach to the mechanicals, Kawasaki is likely to leave the engine untouched. This means that both motorcycles shall continue to use the 649cc parallel-twin motor in its liquid-cooled guise.

Power and torque figures too remain the same, with 70 bhp on tap and the familiar 8500 rpm red line continuing in 2016. Expect a tiny bump in pricing as part of the updates, though the difference is unlikely to make a noticeable difference.
